NOTICE OF RACE

 

The 2020 Soling 1M Invitational “CanAm Challenge” Regatta

 

August 15th, August 16th Saturday & Sunday

“A Friendly Cross-Border Rivalry Continues”

Organized by the STOWE YACHT CLUB (AMYA # 159)

This shall be Invitation only sailing event. If you competed in the 2019 Can-Am you will be invited to compete in the 2020 Can-Am. For those wishing to sail but did not participate in the 2019 event, you may sign up and shall be placed on a waiting list. When a skipper signs up for the waiting list that skipper shall indicate which country he or she shall be sailing for.

If an invited skipper is unable to participate, then on a first come basis, the first skipper on the waiting list shall be invited and so forth until we have a maximum of 15 Skippers on each of the Canadian and USA teams.

 

Regatta Site: The regatta will be sailed on Commodore’s Pond behind the Commodore’s Inn, Stowe, Vermont.

Objective: To promote a friendly, yet competitive, regatta - in the true Corinthian spirit - that will be scored on two levels: (1) Individual performance, and (2) Team performance (Canada vs. USA). The emphasis is on the individual sailor; team racing, as defined in the RRS, is specifically prohibited. The team scoring specifics will be covered in the Sailing Instructions.

Rules:   This regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the current version of The Racing Rules of Sailing, Appendix E of the RRS, the Regatta’s Sailing Instructions (“SI’s”) and any amendments to the SI’s.

Eligibility:  This event is by invitation only. You must be a member of the AMYA or, in the case of international entries, a member of your national sailing authority. The boat entered must be properly registered with the class. The number of competitors will be limited to 15 from Canada and 15 from USA to a total of 30. More details will be posted on the Entry Form.

Entry:  Invited skippers, as defined above, may enter the regatta by completing the online registration. Separate registration online forms will be set up, one for each country (US and Canada) to ensure each country can register and fill their available competitor’s positions fairly. The online registration form will be available XXXXXXX, 2020. To be eligible for frequency assignment, the Entry Form MUST indicate at least three (3) available frequencies for each boat entered, unless you are using a 2.4 GHz system.

Housing - Transportation: Each competitor is expected to make arrangements for their own housing and transportation. Schedule of Events:  Early Check-in, possible measurement and Practice Racing will be available at the Race Site on Friday afternoon.

Measurement:  Boats may be measured for class rules compliance, at the regatta site, before the start of the first race. Any measurement specified by the class rules may be checked by the Race Committee prior to, during, and up to 30 minutes after the last race of the regatta.

Sailing Instructions:  A copy of the Sailing Instructions will be available upon regatta check-in.

Courses:  Courses will be set, based on the prevailing conditions, and announced prior to the start of each race.

Race Format:  A heat-managed odd/even system will be used if the numbers of competitors or the conditions warrant. This will be determined solely by the Race Committee.

Prizes:  Awards for top 5 Individuals and Team Award.

Disclaimer of Liability:  Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

Appeals, if any, shall not affect the awarding of prizes.
